It’s shaping up to be a busy spring for bluegrass band Pert Near Sandstone, who stopped by the Current’s Morning Show to chat about a couple of significant events coming this April: the release of their new album, The Hardest Part of Leaving, and a show at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul as part of the Current Sessions® at the Fitz.
Pert Near Sandstone’s Current Sessions® at the Fitz takes place on Saturday, April 12, just three days before The Hardest Part of Leaving is released on April 15. Tickets for the show go on sale to MPR Members Thursday, Jan. 30 at noon and to the public Friday, Jan. 31 at noon.
“We’ve been a band for almost 10 years and we’ve known each other for 25 years,” Pert Near’s Kevin Kniebel told the Morning Show today. Describing the new album, he added that, “It’s a lot of the same string band stuff that you would expect, with some traditional songs, but there will be a lot of original songs, too, that span the gamut.”
To help celebrate the release the band will be inviting special guests to join them at the Fitz, but they won’t be revealing just who will be with them. “It’s top secret. Some of them don’t even know they’re going to be there yet,” J. Lenz said, laughing.
