Local musician Lucy Michelle used to get such bad stage fright that she threw up while on-air with Radio K. Since that memorable incident, she and her backing band the Velvet Lapelles have appeared on First Avenue's Best New Bands series and become one of the most talented and endearing Twin Cities bands.
Utilizing instruments from accordion to cello to ukelele, Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles' unmistakably warm and folky sound has been described as "Minneapolis klezmer." They will have a CD release party for their new album, "Good of That," on October 31 at the Cedar Cultural Center.
They stopped by the Current studios for a live performance.
Songs performed: "Monsters," "Father Song" and "Diabolical."
