Swedish electro-pop artists may have found themselves enjoying a certain indie cachet the last few years — take, for example, Robyn and the Knife — but it's a sound whose tradition stretches all the way back through mainstream acts like Ace of Base and ABBA. This Stockholm-based trio Niki and the Dove balances both sides of the equation, with imaginative and playful songwriting sure to find favor among indie fans alongside beats and hooks so massive that it's not hard to imagine the band landing themselves on the pop charts.

The band first caught critics' and audiences' attention with their first EP The Drummer on Sub Pop last fall, and they followed through with their thrilling, alluring debut full-length Instinct this summer.

Currently on tour, the trio stopped by The Current studios to chat with Barb Abney and play a few songs.

Songs played: "DJ Ease My Mind," "Love To The Test" and "Tomorrow."
