Alt-J: luckier than Daft Punk - The Chart Show, June 6, 2013

Alt-J weasles past Daft Punk and reaches the top of The Current's chart this week with "Dissolve Me." Impressive move for the English quartet, also known as ∆, in the same week Daft Punk comes in at #1 on the Billboard list. They might not be #1 on The Current, but the French electronic duo's fourth studio release Random Access Memories seems to be far from dissolving regardless of stiff competition.

Three new tracks debut on our chart this week. Laura Marling was featured as our CD of the week last week and makes her first appearance at #20. She's been getting a lot of love from Current listeners, perhaps the track title "Where Can I Go" is a sign of good things to come?

Queens of the Stone Age also appears with "My God Is the Sun." Leading member Josh Homme would be happy to hear that ...Like Clockwork made the cut in the record's debut week. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails is featured on two tracks of QOTSA album, and it just so happens that a new NIN single premiered today. What a coincidence! Will buds Trent and Josh duke it out next week?

Earlier this week, the London four-piece Savages performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and the all girl group totally shredded. Time will tell if the momentum they've gained since the Tuesday broadcast of "She Will" will help them climb the charts with their equally impressive single "Husbands," which comes in at #18.

We see a few big moves this week. Jake Bugg hops ten slots from #17 to #7, recent in-studio guest Lissie jumps from #15 to #9, and Eels climbs from #19 to #11. To top it off, Phoenix enters the Hall of Fame in their twelfth straight week on the chart. Summer is here (almost? hopefully?), which means new releases left and right. See how the competition shakes out next week on The Chart Show!
