This week's Music Memory comes from Dan Sampson of Hopkins, Minn.:

In 1980, there was a nascent punk-rock scene in Green Bay, Wis. Radio was dominated by classic rock stations. Somehow, we managed to find music by the Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones, etc. Many bands were formed locally and some managed to play dates with Hüsker Dü and the Dead Kennedys, among others.

Many bands and songs remind me of those times, but "(I'm) Stranded" by The Saints epitomizes the raw sound and yearning for discovering more cosmopolitan places than small-city Wisconsin.

Within the next year, a documentary about the Green Bay punk scene will come out. It will be time for a return trip when many of these old local bands reunite at the debut.
