This week's Music Memory comes from Amy Glaser of Hudson, Wis.:

I grew up on a dairy farm seven miles from Prairie Farm, Wis. My friend Tonia (pronounced tone-yah) lived in town, and her parents had cable television (it was a huge deal, being that my family received a whopping five stations at our house).

Whenever I would go to Tonia's house, which was often, we'd be camped in front of the television tuned to MTV. So many songs from the mid-80s to the mid-90s remind me of Tonia, but one song that stands out is "Radio Song" by R.E.M.

The one café in town had a jukebox. Tonia and I took stats for the basketball team one season, so on home-game days, we'd walk down to the café after school, grab a bite to eat and play some tunes on the jukebox before walking back to the high school. Surprisingly, the jukebox had "Radio Song" on it, and we thought we were SO COOL because we knew that song. She had I had the same tastes in music, and when the alternative radio stations (REV105 and the Edge) came to be, we were in musical heaven.

Tonia died of melanoma in 2005 at the age of 28. I had known her since kindergarten, and we were such good friends from day one. She was a very unique person, and she's very often on my mind. Many of the songs I hear on Teenage Kicks bring back such wonderful memories. It takes me back to the days, hanging out with one of my best friends.
