The Wonderful Randomness of Random Vinyl

Random Vinyl can become random indeed. This Twitter loop from Feb. 11, 2014, is an example of that.

Who would have thought? On Tuesday morning, Jill Riley and Steve Seel played a Random Vinyl pick from Having Fun with Elvis On Stage, a 1974 album that consists only of Elvis Presley's onstage patter. You can listen to the audio above to hear the segment from The Current's Morning Show.

A Twitter loop that followed illustrated the randomness of Random Vinyl. Fast-forward a few hours ... and Chris Collingwood of Fountains of Wayne shared this tweet:

Collingwood linked to a Soundcloud album of onstage banter by Paul Stanley, a solo artist as well as the "Starchild" of KISS. Stanley's onstage rapport with his audience is playful and fun, even encouraging — and it's all delivered in Stanley's signature rock 'n' roll quaver. (Note: Headphones are probably best if you listen to it in a workplace.)

Fast-forward a few minutes later ... and Harry Shearer, bass player for Spinal Tap and The Folksmen (as Derek Smalls and Mark Shubb, respectively), as well as countless voice roles on TV's The Simpsons, shared this tweet:

...And that brought it all full-circle to Having Fun With Elvis On Stage, The Current Morning Show's Random Vinyl pick for Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Listen to Random Vinyl each weekday at 6:30 a.m. on The Current's Morning Show.
