Lo-Fang performs in The Current studio
by Mac Wilson and Lo-Fang
May 05, 2014
Lo-Fang, whose given name is Matthew Hemerlein, is touring in support of his debut album, Blue Film. After playing a sold-out show at the 7th Street Entry on Saturday, May 3, Lo-Fang stopped in to The Current's studio to play some songs and to chat with Mac Wilson.
Although Hemerlein says there was "no master plan" to become a multi-instrumentalist, his musical interests began when he learned to play violin at age 5 using the Suzuki method. Other instruments followed, and he eventually began to write and record his own songs.
Hemerlein talks to Mac Wilson about songwriting and about recent television appearances on VH1 and on NBC's The Today Show, where one of the guests was Edward Norton, who just happened to attend the same high school as Hemerlein.
Listen to the full interview to hear more about Hemerlein's rising career, including what it was like to tour with Lorde and what he came away with after featuring in a mystery festival in Berlin.
