Trampled By Turtles
Duluth's Trampled By Turtles stay on top of the Chart for the third week in a row.

Milky Chance are a brand new entry this week, with another global hit that was discovered via the web. The duo from Kassel — a small town in the center of Germany, equidistant from bigger music cities like Dortmund and Cologne — met a few years ago on the first day of their 11th grade Advanced Music class. They had only played two shows before recording the debut album, Sadnecessary, at their home studio, then toured Germany ending with a set for 7,000 people at the Hamburg Dockville Festival.

Submit your Chart Show ballot this week for a chance to win Minnesota State Fair admissions passes plus tickets to The Current's MN Music-on-a-Stick show at the Grandstand on Saturday, Aug. 30 featuring performances by Brother Ali, Doomtree, Cloud Cult, Bob Mould, Har Mar Superstar and the Cactus Blossoms!

Another new entry is veteran Tom Petty who, after selling 80 million albums and winning 17 GRAMMYs, finally got his first #1 album last week selling 113,000 copies of Hypnotic Eye.

Ray LaMontagne is back with another track off Supernova, celebrating the old traditions of "Drive-In Movies." Speaking of movies, I had a fun time hosting the Walker Art Center's Music and Movies series this week. There's a couple more chances for you to drive in to see cool tunes and movies ... on your bike! Bill DeVille deejays next Monday, Aug. 18 when the Handsome Family take the stage before the screening of Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

With a name like Andrew Byrne, and the possibilities for confusion or questions of ancestry, it might be obvious to use your middle name as a stage name. Such is the case with Hozier, a 24 year-old from Ireland who's also found fame through the release of a video on YouTube for the song "Take Me to Church," which is actually a barbed condemnation of Catholic indoctrination.

Big move up for the Black Keys this week, and more stories of the dark divorce days for Dan Auerbach which influenced the making of this new album in Rolling Stone. His drummer buddy and bandmate Patrick Carney suggests that he would have to get a divorce, too, if his wife joined them on their upcoming extensive European tour!

First Aid Kit got a nice bump up the Chart again this week, and they've already sold out their return date at First Avenue in November. Hear them chat with Bill from June and watch a video of the Swedish sisters performing "My Silver Lining" in The Current studio.

It's the third week in a row at the top for locals Trampled By Turtles, but otherwise we had a broad culling of Minnesota talent from the list this week, with Atmosphere, John Mark Nelson and Haley Bonar all falling off the Chart.
