Sarah Krueger - Better When You Are Around (Live on 89.3 The Current)
Anticipating the release of Lustrous, Duluth resident Sarah Krueger and her all-star bandpianist Jordan Taylor, drummer JT Bates (Alpha Consumer, Pines), bass guitarist Steve Garrington (Low), guitarist Nate Case (4onthefloor) and guitarist Erik Koskinenstopped by The Current studio to chat with the Local Show's host David Campbell and to perform tracks off the new record.
Recorded at Erik Koskinen's Real Phonic Studio in Minneapolis (except for "Nothing Hits Me"that was recorded last winter in her hometown of Eau Claire, WI), Sarah Krueger's Lustrous is an impressive sophomore release. Guests on the record include Koskinen, who also produced the record, Actual Wolf's Eric Pollard and Frankie Lee.
Earlier this month Sarah performed on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor who "is quiet but has a looming presence," says Sarah. She admits to being nervous before the show, but being in the spotlight isn't unfamiliar to Krueger. She auditioned for American Idol in 2007 during its sixth season (the year Jordin Sparks won) with an outstanding performance of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
Sarah Krueger celebrates the release of her sophomore record Lustrous on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Icehouse with opening act BBGUN. She'll bring it back home with a show at the Red Herring in Duluth with Chaperone lablemates Southwire on Friday, Dec. 19.

- Actual Wolf performs live for The Local Show It's been quite the ride since Eric Pollard released his debut, self-titled album under the name Actual Wolf last fall. He performed tracks off the roots-rock record at The Current's 9th Birthday with an impressive backing band of local artists including brothers Jake (guitar) and Jeremy (drums) Hanson, Erik Koskinen to whom the record's "vibe" is attributed and Low's Steve Garrington.
- Erik Koskinen performs in the Radio Heartland studio You can't walk into a music club somewhere in the Twin Cities without seeing Erik Koskinen playing the heck out of his guitar. Koskinen now has a brand-new album of original material that comes out on Feb. 20, and he stopped into the Radio Heartland studio to give us a preview of it.
- Frankie Lee performs in The Current studios Frankie Lee may not be a familiar name to casual local music lovers, but his face sure is. For years, he has played with countless artists in the Twin Cities, most notably supporting Molly Maher, Erik Koskinen and Tom O'Reagan as a guitarist and bassist. Now Lee has stepped into the spotlight with his debut EP "Middle West."
