9:30 Coffee Break: Underrated Bands
by Jill Riley and Sean McPherson
March 18, 2015
Joe Alton from The Growler joined us on this week's Eating and Drinking segment to talk about some of Minnesota's underrated breweries.
It got us thinking about musicians who were underrated during their careers, only to be celebrated later.
These are the artists or bands who were toiling in semi-anonymity, perhaps playing for a small but dedicated fan base, maybe selling a only few records; their work was not appreciated until after the band broke up — or in some cases, unfortunately, after the passing of an artist.
So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, let's celebrate these unsung heroes of music. What songs by artists who were underrated or under-appreciated during their initial run would you like to hear? Send us your suggestions.
Songs Played
Rodriguez - "Crucify Your Mind"
Big Star - "The Ballad of El Goodo"
The Vaselines - "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam"
J Dilla - "Love" feat. Pharoahe Monch
The Flying Burrito Brothers - "Christine's Tune (Devil in Disguise)"
Japandroids - "The House that Heaven Built"
