Earlier today on the Weekend Arts Roundup, Marianne Combs told us about the Associated Writers & Writing Programs — or AWP — Conference happening in Minneapolis this week. In honor of that, Saturday's Teenage Kicks with Jacquie Fuller will have a literary theme.

But with all these writers and bookish things going on in town, we started thinking about musicians who have also done work as writers; certainly a lot of musicians have completed autobiographies — no small task — but we're thinking more specifically about musicians who have done creative-writing projects in the form of novels, nonfiction stories, poetry, screenplays or kids' books.

So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, in the spirit of #AWP15, we're wondering what songs you'd like to hear from musicians who have also written books, poems and the like. Tell us your request, and be sure to include the name of your requested artist's writing project.

Songs Played

John Lennon "Instant Karma!" - In His Own Write - Collection of Prose and Poems

The Mountain Goats "This Year" - Wolf in the White Van - Novel

Dessa "Call Off Your Ghost" - Spiralbound - Collection of Prose and Poetry

The Jim Carroll Band "People Who Died" - The Basketball Diaries - Memoir

Stuart Murdoch "God Help the Girl" - God Help the Girl - Screenplay

Jewel "Who Will Save Your Soul" - A Night Without Armor - book of poetry
