Every Tuesday at 7:30am Wits host John Moe stops into the Morning Show to share the latest news in Technology.

This week, John Moe chatted with The Morning Show's Jill Riley about a new app that's the flavor of the month and a map from Yale University that spotlights regional slang.

1. The MyIdol app has become very popular. The app allows you to upload a headshot or selfie, and that can be turned into a big-headed cartoon character with your face that can dance around and perform music. "Everybody's doing this now, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what it's for. If you want to look like a silly cartoon version of yourself, then this is the opportunity," John says. "I went about it very clumsily because everything is in Chinese, a language I cannot speak or read."

Despite the language barrier, the app has proved popular, but John speculates it will be very short lived. "I have a feeling this is the kind of thing that will vanish from our consciousness by the time we speak next week," John says. "There are a lot of things we do online that are just dumb and unnecessary and vaguely amusing, and this is another one of those."

2. A new study by Yale University created a clickable map of regional slang in different parts of North America.
Examples of some of the spotlighted regionalisms:
Idaho: "All of my clothes needs washed."
Virginia: "Don't none of y'all work as hard as I do."
Iowa: "We all use nightcrawlers anymore."

"They're not really passing judgment one way or another," John says. "They're just sort of noting the anthropological, sociological differences and how many differences can exist within just a few miles of each other. It's a playful way to dink around with the language."
