9:30 Coffee Break: Dolls

Dolls — yes, the little anthropomorphic toys children play with — have been making the news this week. National Public Radio recently reported on Thomas Edison's circa-1890 talking dolls, and how they sound super creepy; NPR described the dolls' utterances as "the soundtrack to your nightmares."

Closer to home, MPR News arts reporter (and friend of The Current's Morning Show) Euan Kerr discovered a roundabout in St. Paul that had suddenly become populated by dolls, prompting MPR's Nikki Tundel to visit the roundabout to investigate and photograph the phenomenon.

With dolls occupying our collective consciousness, we started to consider the number of songs out there that mention dolls. There are even bands and artists with the word "doll" in their names.

So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear that reference "doll" or "dolls"? Send us your requests.

Songs Played

The Dresden Dolls "Coin-Operated Boy"
Hole "Doll Parts"
Haley Bonar "Raggedy Man"
Dolly Parton "Joshua"
Elvis Costello "My All Time Doll"
