9:30 Coffee Break: Dream Lover
by Jill Riley and Sean McPherson
August 28, 2015
Earlier today, we talked a bit about new words that have earned a place in the Oxford English Dictionary. The list of the year's new words is always one of our favorite topics, because these new words and phrases are not only helpful in describing new situations, emotions and innovations, they're a good way to stay up to date with the things people are saying.
Despite the fun of new words and phrases entering the language, there are some phrases that seem to recur in songs and songwriting. One of those popular phrases is "dream lover."
What exactly is a dream lover? Is it a vision of someone who only visits us during REM sleep? Is it the imagined ideal of a partner? Is it a compliment given to a real-life partner? Like a lot of songs, the interpretation is often left to the listener.
No matter how you look at it, "dream lover" has proved a useful phrase in popular music, and that's our topic for today. So for our 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear that have the words "dream lover" in the title or lyrics — or both? Send us your requests.
