Weekend Arts Roundup: Three by Four
September 03, 2015
MPR News Arts Reporter Marianne Combs joins Jill Riley and Sean McPherson to talk about three events that feature four.
McKnight Fellows Poetry Reading — The 2014 McKnight Fellows in Poetr — Sun Young Shin, Carolyn Williams-Noren, Sierra DeMulder and Danez Smith — are four great poets whom you can hear together at the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis on Friday at 7 p.m.
Four in Motion — Dancers Gadu, Justin Jones, Kaleena Miller and Pramila Vasudevan are each presenting new works in this ensemble show that runs Sept. 4 to 6 at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis. Gadu presents "Here Cometh Balloon Man," a Butoh solo. Inspired by dance duos of a bygone era, Kaleena Miller's "Door Won't Close," explores clutter and conflict in the context of life, stuff and relationships. Justin Jones will perform "The Best Practice," a new solo that proposes an equalization of rehearsal and performance. In collaboration with Dustin Maxwell, Pramila Vasudevan presents "Headroom."
Extremities — Dark and Stormy Productions presents this show with four actors. It's a white-knuckle, tense drama about a man who comes into a house looking for someone and finds a young woman, but the woman ends up capturing the intruder in the fireplace. She and her roommates must then decide what to do with the man. Audience members are left wondering what's happened, who's to blame and whether or not a crime has been committed. This show runs through Sept. 19 at the Grain Belt Warehouse in Minneapolis.
