Listener Brittany from Minneapolis wrote to us today suggesting songs that mention the Mississippi River. "I chose this theme because of the beautiful and mighty Mississippi River flowing through our Twin Cities," she writes. "It's a very integral part of my life and my work … I help monitor the water quality of the river in our area and the storm water that flows into it."

Because it flows through areas that shaped American music, there are indeed a number of songs that mention the Mississippi River, either specifically or indirectly — that is, the singer may say "the river," but we know exactly which river he or she is singing about. And of course, there are many, many river songs.

So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what river songs do you want to hear? Bonus to those songs that explicitly or implicitly mention "Mississippi River." Send us your requests.

And thank you for the theme suggestion, Brittany!
