The Splendid Table host Lynne Rossetto Kasper joins the Current's Morning Show to talk about Thanksgiving side dishes and the trend in turkey this year.

The Splendid Table host Lynne Rossetto Kasper joins Jill Riley and Sean McPherson to talk about mashed potatoes, turkey seasonings and culinary traditions that will bring the maximum amount of flavor to your Thanksgiving meal.

When it comes to turkeys, Kasper says more of a "smacking of tradition" is the trend.

"I see simpler seasonings. Less 'gimmicks'. The great thing about a turkey is unless it's an heirloom...a turkey is sort of like an empty canvass," Kasper says. "It doesn't have a tremendous amount of flavor on its own so really pouring things into it and playing with it, it really works."

And if you're going to use herbs, Kasper says, buy fresh herbs.

"The fragrance will knock your socks off," she says.

Listen to "Turkey Confidential", The Splendid Table's annual live Thanksgiving call-in show Thursday, Nov. 26 from 12 to 2 p.m. ET for two hours of interviews and inspiration.

Here is the recipe for cauliflower-garlic 'mashed potatoes'.
