MPR News Arts Reporter Marianne Combs joins Jade and Sean McPherson to talk about three happenings in the local art world.

Here's this week's rundown:

Bright Half Life — At the Pillsbury House Theater, it's a poignant and funny new play that tells the story of Erica and Vicky, love and a relationship that spans decades. Moments of the past collide with fragments of the present in this kaleidoscopic telling of the loves and loses of coupledom.

The Amish Project — At the Guthrie Theater, is a play conceived in the wake of the 2006 school shootings in the Amish community of Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania. Jessica Dickey's fictional exploration of a real-life tragedy allows us to glimpse into the world of Amish culture and to come to grips with the true limits of compassion and forgiveness.

Art Shanties — For 10 years, Art Shanty Projects has organized a month-long festival on a frozen lake surface into an interactive, artist-driven temporary community that expands notions of art and artist. The 2016 On-Ice Program will take place on White Bear Lake every weekend during February 2016. The program is free and open to the public Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Marianne Combs joins The Current's Morning Show for the Weekend Arts Roundup every Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Read all the latest arts news from MPR News.
