MPR Movie Maven Stephanie Curtis joins Jade and Sean McPherson to talk about the 2016 Oscars.

Films nominated for Best Picture include "The Big Short", "Bridge of Spies", "Brooklyn", "Mad Max: Fury Road", "The Martian", "The Revenant", "Room" and "Spotlight". Chris Rock will be hosting the event.

This year's Oscars have been fraught with controversy due to a lack of diverse films and actors nominated.

"I think it's going to be interesting this time because of all these poor white people that will win something," Stephanie says. "I'm interested in seeing what people will say."

"In the end I liked 'Spotlight', I liked 'The Big Short' a lot, I liked 'The Revenant' OK," she said. "It'll be interesting to see what happens with the Best Picture."

As far as Best Picture goes, Stephanie predicts 'The Big Short', Euan Kerr predicts The Revenant. Stephanie also says Leonardo DiCaprio will win Best Actor for "The Revenant".

"What often drives me crazy is that they often give Best Actress to young ingenue," Stephanie says. "They're probably doing it again this year," Stephanie says, referring to Brie Larson from "Room". But this year, Stephanie doesn't care. "She deserves it. She was fantastic," she said.

This year, artists receiving awards will be able to read their thank yous on a scrolling teleprompter, and Stephanie says hopefully this will help their speeches be more meaningful than having the artists simply thank their managers and lawyers.
