Early Thursday morning, Chance the Rapper (along with rapper/producer Jeremih) released an early Christmas present in the form of a new mixtape: Merry Christmas Lil' Mama. The tape contains appearances by Lud Foe, Noname, even comedian Hannibal Buress.

Craig Finn of The Hold Steady plans solo album, living room tour

We All Want the Same Things — the latest album from Craig Finn — arrives on March 24, courtesy of Partisan Records, and beginning Jan. 11, Finn will be stopping in eight cities (including Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore) on a brief 'living room tour'. Finn announced plans on his Instagram, along with a preview of the album art. (Consequence of Sound)

Run the Jewels teases RTJ3 in new trailer

The highly-anticipated Run the Jewels 3 arrives on Jan. 13, and as a preview, El-P and Killer Mike revealed a first-look trailer. The video contains footage from the duo's high-octane live show, accompanied by a track from the new album, "Legend Has it." (Rolling Stone)

New EP from Nine Inch Nails

On Friday, Dec. 23, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails makes good on a promise for new music before the end of 2016 with a new five-song EP titled Not the Actual Events. Reznor describes the EP as "an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make. It's an EP because that ended up being the proper length to tell that story." Spoon confirms new album coming next year

Austin rockers Spoon recently confirmed the upcoming release of their first studio album since 2014's They Want My Soul. Frontman Britt Daniel is quoted as saying "I feel like we are on to something — we're covering some new ground." The upcoming ninth studio album marks the band's return to Matador Records, and is slated for a March release. (Consequence of Sound)

Chris Martin covers Drake

This week at a Bowery Mission benefit in New York City, Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin performed a surprise set of tunes, including a rendition of "White Christmas," as well as covers of Prince, David Bowie, and The Beatles. At one point, Martin deviated from the mix with a sample of Drake's "Hotline Bling." (Rolling Stone)

Mark Zuckerberg trolls Nickelback

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has been working on a new AI system for the home called "Jarvis." In a recent intro video, Zuckerberg throws some shade toward the band everyone seems to love to hate, Nickelback. At one point in the video, Zuckerberg (sitting with wife Priscilla Chan and son Max) asks the system to "play us some good Nickelback songs." Jarvis (voiced by Morgan Freeman) responds, "I'm sorry Mark, I'm afraid I can't do that... there are no good Nickelback songs." Ouch. (Billboard)

Trump gets the KISS-off

As President-elect Donald Trump continues to struggle finding performers for his January inauguration, veteran rockers KISS became the latest act to turn down the invitation. KISS bassist/lead singer Gene Simmons was a contestant on Trump's Celebrity Apprentice, but after being asked to perform at the swearing in, he "politely declined." (Spin)
