DJ Pick of the Week: The New Pornographers, 'High Ticket Attractions'

This week on The Current, it's my DJ Pick, and I'm picking one of my favorite pop bands on Planet Earth: from British Columbia, Canada, the New Pornographers.

They've got a brand-new album coming out, it's their seventh full-length, and it's called Whiteout Conditions. The album releases on April 7, 2017, and it's beautiful.

Now, there have been quite a few personnel changes on this particular record, but it does continue the New Pornographers' trend of moving in an even poppier or more sythesizer-oriented direction, and it's absolutely gorgeous. Front man and main singer A.C. Newman has always been a great crafter of pop, whether it was his earlier band, Zumpano, his solo work or throughout New Pornographers' trajectory. This new record is as poppy and clever and creative — almost Baroque at certain times — as anything the band have ever done. AndnNeko Case's vocals (as I said, a rotating cast of personnel on this one) sound fantastic.

This lead single, "High Ticket Attractions," is my favorite on the record. It's a great new addition from the New Pornographers, and it is my DJ Pick of the Week.
