U2's 30th anniversary Joshua Tree Tour comes to U.S. Bank Stadium on Sept. 8.

Two goodbyes

Cult hero Daniel Johnston has announced what he says will be his final tour. Jeff Tweedy and Built to Spill are among the artists who will join Johnston for the short string of dates this fall. "For each show," notes Pitchfork, "Johnston's backing band will create the setlist, and each night will begin with a screening of the 2005 documentary The Devil and Daniel Johnston."

A final studio album by the late Gregg Allman will be released on Sept. 8. Years in the making, Southern Blood will include the Allman original "My Only True Friend" as well as covers of songs by artists including Bob Dylan, Willie Dixon, and Jerry Garcia. Hear "My Only True Friend" at Billboard.

Esperanza Spalding to live-stream album sessions

Esperanza Spalding is heading into the studio to record a new album. Oh, and none of the songs are written yet. Oh, and also — she's going to finish the whole album in 77 hours. Oh, and one more thing! The entire session is going to be live-streamed online.

Spalding says the unusual process will provide a new creative context, and also to avoid pressures from her label, Concord Records, to make any changes to the finished product before release. "I somehow convinced the label to pay for this," she says, "and I'm eternally grateful for that. And they can't do anything about what happens, because the record is being made as we do this thing."

John Burk, president of Concord Records, says, "We believe in Esperanza 100 percent." (New York Times)

STP prep Core reissue

Stone Temple Pilots will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their 1992 album Core with a deluxe reissue. The most generously packed edition of the reissue will include a hardcover book in addition to "the remastered original album, over two hours of unreleased demos and live tracks (including their 1993 MTV Unplugged performance), a vinyl copy of the original LP and a DVD," notes Rolling Stone. Super fans can even spring for a limited-edition version that also comes with a replica of the "Plush" vinyl single. The whole shebang comes out Sept. 29.

Charli XCX plays with "Boys"

What do Ezra Koenig, Mac DeMarco, Diplo, Rostam, Wiz Khalifa, D.R.A.M., Kaytranada, Stormzy, Riz Ahmed and Swet Shop Boys, Jack Antonoff, Mark Ronson, Flume, Ty Dolla $ign, Joey Bada$$, Chromeo, Charlie Puth, Khalid, and Joe Jonas have in common? They all appear in a new video for Charli XCX’s song "Boys," directed by Charli herself. (Pitchfork)

Janelle Monáe and St. Vincent become faces of Tiffany

The fall advertising campaign for elite jeweler Tiffany & Co. is called "There's Only One." In addition to actors and models, the campaign stars musicians Janelle Monáe, Annie Clark (a.k.a. St. Vincent), and Zoe Kravitz (Lolawolf). (Pitchfork)
