Portugal The Man top our chart this year as well as many others. They set a record on the Billboard Alternative Chart with 20 weeks at #1 beating out past record holders Muse, Foo Fighters and Staind! It's being described as the biggest crossover hit of the year, elevating "the little band from Alaska, based now in Oregon" to a whole new level of fame.

As you can see, staying at the top of our chart for more than one week is a rare feat. Only six songs managed to do it, and one of them mostly during last year, that's why The xx are at #5, below Arcade Fire. The "Ranks" number is the total of the positions each song spent on the chart, so the lower the number the higher it stayed. Hence the way we delineated between all the songs that had one week at #1. As you can see it is very very close!

Spoon, Arcade Fire and Hippo Campus all have two songs on this chart and with Chastity Brown and Bon Iver joining Hippo Campus it was another strong year for locals. But last year there were 9 Minnesotan reps, including Lizzo at #1 and #4. She's making a big 'homecoming' by playing a massive NYE party at Muse.

Arcade Fire, residents of Canada, are the only non-USA artist on this list, again different from last when David Bowie, Wolf Alice and Radiohead repped the UK and Courtney Barnett down under. And Beck broke records with us by being on last years chart, with 'Wow' spending 4 weeks at #1 and then re-appearing with three other songs from the same album, which was finally released this year. He explained the delay and what inspired the upbeat tone of 'Colors' when we broadcast from his show at The Palace Theater back in August.

Seems a long while since Sylvan Esso were dominating our chart but they will be back soon! Undertaking a massive world tour starting in Singapore on January 27th they'll reach us on July 20th at The Surly Brewing Festival Field.

HAIM just made it on to one of the ubiquitous end of year lists that we in the music media love to do. The Guardian nominated the video for 'Want You Back' as one of the best of the year along with Kendrick Lamar, SZA and Torres.

And St. Vincent was at the top of a natty poll done by NME in the UK of their favorite live acts. Considering she stood on stage alone with nothing but her guitar and arty visuals it's impressive to be with Liam, Wolf Alice and The National.

Tune in for the results of your voting for our Top 89 on NYE and New Years Day. Happy New Year Everyone and thanks for voting!!
