This week on Listen to Looch, Mary Lucia welcomes The Local Show's Andrea Swensson for a chat about programming a full calendar day's worth of music by women. They also share some thoughts about some essential artists they greatly admire.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe

Mary Lucia: "She was this amazing blues guitar player in a fancy dress and coat — really, really cool."

Ani DiFranco

Andrea Swensson: "Ani DiFranco is an icon to me. Not just musically, but the way she tells stories and then the way she lives her life. She's so fiercely independent. Prince adored her; he really modeled what he was doing in the '90s after what she was doing with Righteous Babe Records, which is so significant to me."

Joan Jett

Mary Lucia: "She lives her life so unapologetically and so authentically. … I feel the same way about Ani DiFranco. It's that competent, confident strength in being exactly who they are, and then the music is just amazing on top of that."

Watch the complete video above to hear the full conversation. On International Women's Day, listen to Mary Lucia from 2 to 6 p.m., and Andrea Swensson from 6 to 10 p.m.
