Porter Nickerson perform in the Radio Heartland studio
by Mike Pengra, Willy Porter and Carmen Nickerson
May 02, 2018
Willy Porter already had a successful recording and touring career as a solo singer-songwriter, but after a friend suggested he try singing a duet with Carmen Nickerson, that trajectory was altered slightly.
Porter is known for his funky, Kottke-esque, fast-picking guitar style. Nickerson's sultry voice was already well-established in the Midwest. Joining the two forces was new for both Milwaukee musicians and it forced each of them to think outside the box. And we're lucky they did.
Porter Nickerson's first official album as a duo came out in 2016: Bonfire To Ash. They were on tour recently, passing through Minnesota when they stopped by the Radio Heartland studio for us to hear them play.
