Sunflower Bean perform in The Current's studio
by Mac Wilson and Cecilia Johnson
June 29, 2018
Sunflower Bean's latest album is called Twentytwo in Blue, so when they stopped by The Current for their second in-studio performance, they started by discussing age and aging. All of the band members were 22 when the album dropped. "When you're 22, you're old enough to know who you are and maybe even know who you want to vote for, but probably not how to do your taxes," bassist/vocalist Julia Cumming says. If you're a man, you're told you get better with age; if you're a woman, you're pressured to start watching the clock. No matter what you do, you hope to get great at it.
That and much more was on the table in Mac Wilson's conversation with this Brooklyn band. In between lovely, tight rock songs, they talked with Mac Wilson about musical timelessness, Orson Welles, and the feeling that "every day is a crisis fest." Use the audio player above to hear the full session.
