Carole King is one of the most prolific songwriters of our lifetime, having written or co-written 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1955 and 1999. She has made 25 solo albums, the most successful being Tapestry, which held the record for most weeks at No. 1 by a female artist for more than 20 years. She has won four Grammy Awards, the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song (the first woman to be so honored), is a Kennedy Center Honoree, and in 1987, she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Tonight, "BEAUTIFUL - The Carole King Musical" comes through town for a short run at the Orpheum Theatre. It's a jukebox musical with a book by Douglas McGrath that tells the story of the early life and career of Carole King, using songs that she wrote. In 2014, it won Tonys for Best Leading Actress in a Musical (Jessie Mueller) and Best Sound Design.
