Listen to Looch: Meet Mr. Cheswick

by Mary Lucia

March 26, 2019

I want to introduce the world to Mr. Cheswick.

Now, Mr. Cheswick is my third pug, and he's six months old. And I found out that two or more pugs is called a "grumble." So I've got a grumble at home.

This is his first time here at work, and he has, since I adopted him during the polar vortex, he hasn't — his little feet have not touched sidewalk or cold or outdoors — so everything's kind of a first for him right now. But he is the kind of dog that people say, you know, "I can't stop looking at his face!" And obviously, this face is precious, but what's even better about Mr. Cheswick is that tail! It is a perfect Dairy Queen little curl!

The thing about pugs is they are descendants from China. They were bred by Chinese royalty to do nothing more than be a companion. That means they have no skill set; there's no fetching, there's no nothing, other than "Hey, what are we doing? You wanna watch a movie on the couch? Or what are we doing?" So they're kind of the perfect dog for me because they're almost like little human beings.

And about his name, Mr. Cheswick. If you haven't read or seen the movie, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, it'll make perfect sense — just Google that, "Mr Cheswick," and that image will pop up and you'll see this little face.

But first day at work, and I'll just tell you that it's near impossible to walk down a hallway with a puppy because every single person takes a double-take first of all. He is friendly. He is curious. And he is the reason that I get up in the morning. And I'll tell you what: I don't even know how I hold a job — look at his face!

It is incredible, but I wanted the world to meet Mr. Cheswick because he's a huge part of my life, and I have waited a long time to love him, and he's finally here.
