Seratones first broke onto the scene in 2016 with their debut album, Get Gone, and now they're back with their second release, Power. Lead singer and guitarist AJ Haynes was not intimidated by the proverbial sophomore album. "Always walk into everything with no expectations," she says. "It's exciting; it's a time to reinvent yourself. … It feels really good. I'd never really had an anxiety about a sophomore record — you know: buy the ticket, take the ride."

In town for a show at the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis, Seratones — Haynes, together with lead guitarist Travis Stewart, bassist Adam Davis, keyboardist Tyran Coker and drummer Jesse Gabriel — visited The Current studio for a session hosted by Mark Wheat.

Of the album title Power, Haynes says "It's more an exploration than it is a statement or a question. It's looking at what power dynamics mean in our bigger global sense but also in our intimate relationships."

That intimacy is something that lends the songs strength. "I've learned that as artists, we will be rewarded for our vulnerability, we'll be rewarded for our honesty, and just come what may," Haynes says. "It's not really in our hands; we just have to express."
