This week, I want to talk about a legend who just passed away: Peter Beard.

If you don't know who he is, you might be familiar with some of his work. Beard was a photographer and adventurer; in fact, The New York Times in its obituary Monday said Peter Beard was really one of the last great adventurers.

Beard had a love affair with Africa, and has released photography books, mainly shooting images of wildlife. And in his home in New York, he also was part of the whole Studio 54, Andy Warhol, Bianca Jagger, Mick Jagger scene. He dated many famous women, and he was married to Cheryl Tiegs at one point.

Oh — and hey, Minnesota: his great-grandfather was James J. Hill.

A documentary that might lead you more into the world of Peter Beard — other than his books and his artwork and his collages, which are amazing! — is a film called That Summer. It's available for streaming on Hulu, Vudu, iTunes, Amazon and Google Play.
