Our Black History Month Musicheads Essential Artist of the day is Public Enemy.
The group was formed by Chuck D and Flavor Flav in 1985, and broke new ground with their politically and socially conscious rap music that influenced the next several decades of popular music.
Since their heyday in the late '80s and early '90s, Public Enemy have reunited regularly to perform together and record new albums, and the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, and in 2020 they were honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Grammys.
