Music for kids and their adults
Acoustic, Americana and Roots
This week on The Local Show, we'll examine the idea that we are experiencing a renaissance in Twin Cities soul.
First you'll meet the veteran vocalist Sonny Knight, who cut his first side in Minneapolis at 17 years old in 1965. Now in his 60's, he's releasing his debut full length "I'm Still Here" on Secret Stash records. Sonny and the Secret Stash house band, The Lakers, will join David Campbell in The Current studios to put on a clinic in classic soul and perform their hot new single "Hey Girl."
In hour hour two, you'll meet the new kid. The band Black Diet has been turning heads and catching ears for the past 12 months. They'll join David Campbell in the studio as well for a performance and conversation about their debut "Find Your Tambourine" out now on Pinata Records.
And we'll chat with reporter Andrea Swensson about The Replacements, the Turf Club's temporary shut down, and the Charles Chamblis photo exhibit at the Minnesota History Center.
Plus sets of both classic TC soul, and modern sounds in soul and R&B. It's all about soul this week on The Local Show.
