As pioneers of the post-punk era, Depeche Mode is an English group formed in 1980 in Basildon, Essex. Q magazine called them, "The most popular electronic band the world has ever known." They have had 45 songs on the U.K. Singles Chart; #1 albums in the U.K., U.S. and throughout Europe; and album sales of more than 100 million. Some of their classic song titles include "Personal Jesus," "People Are People," "Enjoy the Silence," "Strangelove" and "Somebody." Bat for Lashes is the work of British singer/songwriter, multi- instrumentalist and visual artist Natasha Khan. Since releasing the universally acclaimed album Two Suns in 2009, Bat for Lashes has toured with Radiohead and Coldplay; collaborated with Beck to write a song for the Twilight film; earned two Brit Award nominations; and won an Ivor Novello songwriting award. Khan cites Steve Reich and Susan Hiller as influences, while echoes of Björk and Siouxsie Sioux are heard throughout Bat for Lashes' mystical indie rock sound.
