Celebrate the release of Holy Ghost from "Garage gospek" group Gospel Machine. Over the past couple of years, Gospel Machine have gathered a slow head of steam toward this release, playing several shows at the Dakota Jazz Club and opening for Saun & Starr (Daptone Records). But Holy Ghost will mark a coming out for the band, having worked with Alex Hall (JD McPherson) to mix the record and with the Brass Messengers and Jon Davis (Ghostband) adding raucous horns. Gospel Machine came together when songwriter Wes Burdine asked Jayanthi Kyle to collaborate on what they would eventually call “garage gospel.” Burdine explains their sound as, “Really a way for us to describe music about redemption: from racism, from sexism, from war and violence, and between two people in love. But it’s also about making music with the urgency of garage pop.” They recruited members of the indie-rock band the Small Cities to bring that urgency and drive. Opening the show will be R&B/dance group Pornonono and Sarah White. All ages
