9:30 Coffee Break: Weed Party

Smoking Marijuana

Hundreds of people congregated under Seattle's Space Needle last night to count down to midnight. When midnight hit a plume of smoke filled the air, because marijuana is now legal under Washington state law. Washington and Colorado became the first states to vote to decriminalize and regulate the possession of an ounce or less of marijuana by adults over 21. Both measures call for setting up state licensing schemes for pot growers, processors and retail stores. Colorado's law is set to take effect by Jan. 5.

While we in no means are promoting smoking marijuana (in fact, Wastington's new law still forbids smoking in public and it's still illegal in Minnesota) we can't ignore the mass amount of people lighting up and not hiding it. What songs don't hid the fact that they are about lighting up a joint or smoking pot? We are going to play your suggestions for songs that are blatantly about the act of smoking marijuana for today's 9:30 Coffee Break.

Songs Played:

Band of Horses - "Weed Party"

Black Sabbath - "Sweet Leaf"

Musical Youth - "Pass the Dutchie"

Fraternity of Man - "Don't Bogart Me"

Peter Tosh - "Legalize it"
