The Replacements to release four-LP 'Twin/Tone Years' reissue box set

There were rumors but if the Replacements' last show (ever?) at Barcelona's Primavera Porto Festival is any indication, we might not see that reported reunion album. Instead, you can enjoy the albums the 'Mats have already released all over again.

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, as a part of Record Store Day's Vinyl Tuesday initiative, Rhino Records will release The Twin/Tone Years, a four-LP reissue box set featuring 49 remastered tracks from the Replacements first four releases: Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash (1981), Stink EP (1982), Hootenanny (1983), and Let It Be (1984).

To celebrate its release, the Electric Fetus is hosting a free Twin/Tone Years listening party (with pizza!) on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. (RSVP on Facebook!) The box set—which is limited to 8,000 pressings—will also be available for purchase. Anticipating the release, The Current is giving away not one but two Twin/Tone Years box sets! Enter for your chance to win a box set (and a $50 Electric Fetus gift certificate!) using the form below. Note: This giveaway is now closed.

The Twin/Tone Years box set covers the Replacements' albums put out by the now-defunct Minneapolis-based independent label. Another four-LP box set covering the 'Mats albums released via Sire Records is in the works for those not too elitist to enjoy music first released on a major label (by rock 'n' roll standards).
