Ben Lubeck has been taking some time away lately from his band, Farewell Milwaukee, to finish writing a new collection of songs. The resulting record could have been one for the band, but Ben felt the songs were so intensely personal that it would make more sense to release it as a solo project. With the blessing of his bandmates, Ben decided to go ahead and make the album.

The material of Ben Lubeck's new solo record, Rented Rooms, is an exploration of his relationship with his own father — through the eyes of a new father. Ben always had his dad's support to make music even though his father wasn't around much during Ben's childhood. Ben calls the album "a love letter" to his dad, even though he's not sure his father will ever hear it.

Ben Lubeck, along with guitarist Jake Hanson, stopped by the Radio Heartland studio to talk about this new collection of songs and play a few tunes before the CD release (which happens Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at the Turf Club in St. Paul, Minn.).
