Coffee Break: Cleanup / rebuild
by Anna Weggel
June 01, 2020
Over the weekend, there were thousands of people in the streets of Minneapolis and St. Paul calling for justice for George Floyd. There were military helicopters scooping water out of Diamond Lake to put out fires. A crowd of people almost got run over by a tanker truck on Interstate 35W last night. And all in the middle of a global pandemic.
But what we also saw over the weekend was volunteers flocking to neighborhoods across the Twin Cities to clean up ravaged streets, drop off donations, deliver food, sweep up debris, salvage libraries, and work to support their communities in any way they can think of.
Though we don't know what today or this week or the next month will bring, let's put a spotlight on volunteers and cleanup efforts this morning.
