Exploring the musical legacy of Prince and beyond
How would you define Prince's sound? The answer can be surprisingly complex. Is it the synthesized horn parts and electronic drums? The unprecedented blurring of genres and styles? Is Prince's sound the Minneapolis Sound (and vice versa), or is it more complicated than that?
This week on The Local Show, we'll attempt to deconstruct Prince's sound with the help of several experts who worked closely with him throughout his career. You'll hear from engineer Susan Rogers, keyboardist Dr. Fink, Michael B. Nelson of the Hornheads, Roger Linn (inventor of the Linn LM-1 drum machine), and more, plus a mix of wide-ranging Prince tunes.
