Making Twin Cities debut with a sold out show at the Fine Line Music Cafe (and to play Prince's Paisley Park), FKA twigs' Tahliah Debrett Barnett stopped by The Current with her band to perform live in-studio and to chat with Music Director and host David Safar.

With the release of her debut full-length LP1, she was nominated for the BBC's Sound of 2014 and the prestigious Mercury Prize in her native England, and she was introduced to the masses stateside last week when she performed "Two Weeks" on The Tonight Show.

Success does not come without hard work. Before Young Turks Recordings Ltd. (the xx, SBTRKT) released FKA twigs' LP1 and EP2 (EP1 was self-released), Tahliah worked four jobs while pursing a music career. "There's a misconception that I'm a dancer," she says. twigs only took up dancing after learning that she could earn a week's worth of pay working four jobs with one dancing gig. "It was a business decision. I looked at it very much as a nine-to-five."

FKA twigs' time dancing for other musicians like Jessie J and Kylie Minogue gave her a behind-the-scenes look at what it was like being a musician and eventually informed her own career and creativity. In light of giving up dancing to pursue music at age 16, "Life sometimes presents you with opportunities to make your dreams seem closer," says twigs.

Listen to the full in-studio session to hear FKA twigs chat with host David Safar about how she met her longtime friends and bandmates Cy, LT and Tic and what it was like working with producer Paul Epworth on LP1.

FKA twigs plays tonight at Prince's legendary Paisley Park (7801 Audubon Rd. in Chanhassan). Doors are at 9:30 p.m. and there is a $35 cover.
