The Throbbing Hive with Wits' John Moe: Curators of Sweden
February 03, 2015

Every Tuesday at 7:30am Wits host John Moe stops into the Morning Show to share the latest news in Technology.
This week, John Moe chatted with The Morning Show's Steve Seel and Sean McPherson (in for Jill Riley) about the Seattle Seahawks, about an affordable computer called the Raspberry Pi 2 and about a Twitter account in which various Swedes take turns representing their nation to the world.
Moe on the Super Bowl:
"As a Seattle sports fan, I'm always a little relieved when the inevitable loss actually occurs," John Moe says, "because then I'm no longer worrying about it."
Moe on the Raspberry Pi 2 computer:
"For the price of two pizzas, a salad and some drinks, you can get a computer now. The Raspberry Pi 2, is available at a price point of $35. It's a follow-up to an earlier Raspberry Pi unit, but is faster and has more memory. … It's good enough; it operates on a different set of goals than HP, Dell or Mac. It's about getting as many computers as possible into as many hands as possible. You can be eight years old and learning to code all kinds of things, and your school can afford it because it's $35 a pop."
Moe on the @Sweden Twitter account:
"It's the third anniversary of a very bold social experiment going on in Sweden on Twitter. … The government of Sweden is running a program called Curators of Sweden; every week, a different Swedish person takes over the Twitter account and … that person represents Sweden on Twitter. That person says what he or she thinks it is important for Swedes to know. All kinds of different people are on there, saying what they want to say."
The initiative has caught on enough that now Ireland has begun the same program.
Would this work in the United States of America? What do you think?
