Being asked to do Christmas music is not a new occurrence for Johnny Solomon and Molly Moore of Communist daughter. It's just not something that has particularly appealed to Johnny until now.

"I always think Christmas songs are schmarmy and gross – no offense to anyone doing any Christmas music."

The music of Communist Daughter tends to run on the heavy side, Johnny says, "and so I don't like it when bands who do heavy things suddenly come out with like 'Oh Christmas Tree' or something."

Molly, however, has different feelings about holiday music.

"We tour constantly and I'll catch her in New Mexico desert in July driving and suddenly I'll be like 'are you humming a Christmas song'?" Johnny says. "She's one of those people that loves happy Christmas stuff."

Though the songs do have the holiday spirit, the EP still runs dark.

"I think there is something emotionally powerful about the holidays alone," says Johnny, who spent Christmas by himself about six years ago.
