The Chines New Year – the festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar – begins today.

The 12-year cycle of the animal zodiac indicates that we are now in the Year of the Monkey, the ninth animal in the cycle. The good news is that those born in the Year of the Monkey are said to be lively, quick-witted, curious, innovative and mischievous. However, the Year of the Monkey is believed to be one of the most unlucky years in the Chinese calendar.

If we're all going to be unlucky this year, let's at least listen to some good tunes together.

So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear that mention monkeys?

Songs played

Shock The Monkey - Peter Gabriel
Monkey To Man - Elvis Costello and The Imposters
Space Monkey - Patti Smith Group
Monkey Wrench - Foo Fighters
Monkey - Low
I Wanna Be Like You (The Monkey Song) - Louis Prima

Do you deserve a Coffee Break? We at The Current's Morning Show think you do, and we want to bring coffee and treats from Peace Coffee and Glam Doll Donuts to your workplace. In addition, we'll bring along local artist Eric Mayson to perform a couple of songs for you and your coworkers. Let us know why you'd like a Coffee Break - or request your own idea for a future topic.
