Music News: 'Nevermind' baby is back in the pool

If you were on the cover of the record our listeners consider the single greatest album of all time, how often would you pose to replicate that cover? At least every several years, right? That's how Spencer Elden, now 25 years old, feels. He jumped back in the pool to recreate the cover of Nirvana’s Nevermind in 2001 and again in 2008, and now he's at it again. So far, he's kept his clothes on for the reenactments, but that won't last forever: "Sooner or later," he says, "I want to create a print of a real-deal re-enactment shot, completely naked." He suggested that to the photographer this time, but was told "that would be weird." (Stereogum)

Today's Prince news

Prince’s family has announced three consecutive nights of dance parties scheduled to coincide with the Oct. 13 tribute concert. Andre Cymone, Judith Hill, and Liv Warfield are among the Prince associates who are expected to make appearances at Muse in Minneapolis during the Oct. 12-14 run. Tickets are now on sale, with family meet-and-greets available at the $250 level. (Pioneer Press)

Prince's sister Tyka Nelson, along with five half-siblings, are expected to be declared the rightful heirs to Prince's estate by year-end, reports Billboard. The main question remaining is whether the heirs of the late Duane Nelson will receive a share. According to Duane Nelson's birth certificate, he shares a father with Prince — but that paternity has been challenged.

TRL is coming back — without NSYNC

MTV is bringing TRL back — but don't expect Carson Daly interviewing boy bands. Instead, Nessa will host a one-hour "Total Registration Live" special at which millennials will be encouraged to sign up to vote. The Tuesday night show will feature a performance by Ty Dolla $ign and appearances by other stars. (Rolling Stone)

Today's Lin-Manuel Miranda news

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar wrote a rap for Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller, encouraging him to bring the hit musical to our "Great-Laked, north state, home of a Prince and some Gophers." Seller was appearing before the Senate's Commerce Committee to discuss the impact of ticket bots on Hamilton sales. (Star Tribune)

Because he knows genius when he sees it, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda jumped onstage with "Weird Al" Yankovic at Radio City Music Hall on Saturday night, contributing a vocal cameo to Weird Al's Star Wars/Kinks parody "Yoda." (Billboard)
