Today in 1994, Nirvana's Kurt Cobain died at 27 and in 2002, Alice in Chains' Layne Staley died at 34.

Nirvana has come to be regarded as one of the most influential and important rock bands of the modern era, and Alice in Chains, rising to fame in the Seattle grunge scene among Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, was one of the most successful music acts of the 1990s.
