In his review of Ryan Adams' latest album The Prisoner, The Current's David Safar writes, "Prisoner is an exercise in perfecting what a tortured love song can and should be … [but] The songs aren't just about the universal struggle to relate to each other on a personal level; it's also about relating to the everyday realities of the world."

That assessment is evident in Adams' searing and emotional performance of "Outbound Train" on the Monday, May 1, episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS.
