According to the internet, May 16 is National Piercing Day.

Body piercing goes way back in our history as some of the oldest discovered mummified remains showed signs of earrings (which dates their use back 5,000 years). Nose piercings have been traced back to 1500 BC. The practice of piercing is still alive and well with sites other than the ears gaining popularity in the 1970s and going mainstream in the '90s.
