The Message
Bringing '88 back
September 11, 2019
This week on The Message we're going to hop in the Time Machine and go back to a seminal year in the history of hip hop and R&B: 1988.
In '88, fans were hanging onto every syllable from Public Enemy as their sophomore album dominated the hip-hop world. And nothing was quiet on the R&B front either, with Bobby Brown having his star turn, Prince bringing us "Lovesexy," and titans of R&B like Luther Vandross and Antia Baker ruling the charts. And we can't forget about the group that turned the music industry on its head when they came straight outta Compton. This week on the message, we're going back to '88.
