Art that disturbs

After receiving backlash for releasing a music video that featured the kidnapping and burying of a claymation figure resembling SNL comedian Pete Davidson, Kanye West took to IG to say, "Artists therapy, just like this view. Art is not a proxy for any ill or harm. Any suggestion otherwise about my art is false and mal-intended." Now you may squirm at Kanye's retort, but his comments do cause me to think about other times in hip hop and R&B where the topic of violence was used as a medium for artistic expression and cultural commentary. Music is art and art does have the tendency to make you feel uncomfortable. We're talking art that disturbs this week on The Message.
You'll hear music from Eminem, Phony Ppl, Rihanna and new music from Lucky Daye and Mary J. Blige.
